It's possible that you may find some subtle differences between English 7 and the reading and language arts classes you’ve had in the past. The biggest change is having only one period a day to do it all. In the beginning that may feel weird. Primarily, we’ll approach literature as an art form. We’ll study different literary genres (i.e. novels, plays, poems, short stories) through reading and discussion and writing; additionally, we’ll work on vocabulary, grammar, spelling and study skills. There is such a variety of topics to explore that hopefully everybody will find at least something he/she likes. In addition, 7th graders in New York take an English Language Assessment in the spring. Obviously, we’ll have to make sure that we’re ready for that. There’s a lot to do; hopefully, you’re as motivated as I am.
